CodePlex Open Source Project Builds Application Monitoring Repository Leveraging Visual Studio 2010 and Community Editions of SQL Server and Dotfuscator.
PreEmptive Solutions Announces Availablility of Open Source Runtime Intelligence Endpoint Starter Kit
CLEVELAND, OH – February 23, 2010 – PreEmptive Solutions, the leading provider of solutions to protect, measure, and manage application investments, announced today the immediate availability of its Runtime Intelligence Endpoint Starter Kit at http://riendpointkit.codeplex.com – giving developers the ability to better monitor and measure application adoption.
The open source project utilizes the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 community edition of Dotfuscator to inject the application instrumentation mechanism post-compile into a sample application. Once the application is “runtime enabled,” it streams usage data to an analytics endpoint built upon Microsoft SQL Server and published to a SharePoint Web part.
“The instrumentation capabilities included with Visual Studio 2010 offer unprecedented visibility into application adoption and user behavior,” said William Leach, CTO, PreEmptive Solutions. “We’ve published the open source project to share baseline development practices, tap into the creativity of the Microsoft .NET Framework development community, and foster continued application development innovation.”
The repository project compliments an earlier CodePlex project that takes advantage of the Visual Studio 2010 extensibility framework to surface runtime intelligence data inside the Code Editor found at http://rieditorextension.codeplex.com.
“At Microsoft, we see great value when Visual Studio Industry Program partners such as PreEmptive Solutions utilize the developer platform to bring scalable solutions to customers. In the Runtime Intelligence Endpoint Starter Kit, Visual Studio 2010 allows developers to easily measure and manage application adoption across several deployment models including the .NET Framework,” said Cyrill Glockner, director of Business Development at Microsoft Corp.
Examples of how Runtime Intelligence can lead development organizations to greater agility, clearer priorities and smarter decisions include:
- Beta process management: Monitor beta usage, end-user behavior, application stability, and new feature adoption to improve software quality and validate development investments.
- Customer Experience Improvement Program automation: Connect usage, end-user productivity, client satisfaction, and support efficiency through monitoring and measurement of production deployments.
