Antivirus False Positives
Here at PreEmptive, we are in the business of protecting applications through obfuscation, tamper detection, and other methods. These safeguards protect your company’s revenue and IP by shielding your software from reverse engineering, manipulation, and other threats.
However, many malware applications apply layers of code obfuscation and protections to mask their true intentions. Because of this, legitimate applications and libraries protected by PreEmptive can trigger false-positives in antivirus tools.
When you encounter a false-positive with your protected application, we recommend taking the following actions:
- Scan a build of your application with PreEmptive disabled.
- Rebuild and re-scan the application with PreEmptive enabled.
- If the false-positive persists, reach out to your antivirus company and report the issue to them.
Following these steps will allow you to verify the false-positive is triggered by PreEmptive’s protections and also determine whether the virus scanner is able to update their algorithms to avoid these false positives.
Here are some common places to submit false positives:
Company | Where to report? |
---|---|
Avira | https://www.avira.com/en/analysis/submit |
Kaspersky | https://support.kaspersky.com/common/error/other/15332 |
McAfee | https://www.mcafee.com/en-us/consumer-support/dispute-detection-allowlisting.html |
Microsoft | https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission |
Symantec | https://symsubmit.symantec.com/ |
VirusTotal | https://docs.virustotal.com/docs/false-positive-contacts |
If the virus scanning tool rejects your false positive submission, please reach out to the PreEmptive support team and share the antivirus tool’s analysis. While we cannot guarantee our protections will avoid triggering false positives, we can review the antivirus tool’s findings for potential improvements to our products.
