Dotfuscator Adds Rooted Device Controls to Meet Exceptional Xamarin.Android Demand

Xamarin

1,000% increase in Dotfuscator usage among Xamarin app developers drives powerful new app and data security features.

SEATTLE, WA — On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, PreEmptive Solutions announced the immediate availability of Dotfuscator Professional Edition Version 4.35.0 and Dotfuscator CE 5.35.0. These concurrent releases include rooted device detection and response controls for Xamarin and Android apps.

Dotfuscator for Xamarin.Android

“Rooted device detection and response controls secure both Android apps and the data that flows through them,” said Gabriel Torok, CEO of PreEmptive Solutions. “Dotfuscator’s rooted device detection and response offers Xamarin.Android developers are the first to implement this fundamental Android security measure, ensuring both effective risk management and auditability.”

“Unauthorized rooting can undermine even the best secure coding practices, data encryption policies, and identity management solutions,” said Sebastian Holst, CSO at PreEmptive Solutions. “Every trusted source for secure coding practices, including the PCI Security Standards Council, NIST, OWASP, and Google, acknowledges the rooted device compromise as both difficult to detect and dangerous to app stakeholders and users.”

“Dotfuscator’s ability to inject root detection post-compile into Xamarin.Android apps offer numerous advantages for developers and business owners,” said William Leach, CTO at PreEmptive Solutions. “Developers are freed from staying current with the latest root detection techniques without losing the ability to include app-specific behaviors when a rooted compromise is detected. App owners can be confident that the control is implemented effectively and consistently as part of a DevOps process, with the added bonus that the build task is also creating an audit trail.”

Dotfuscator adoption for Xamarin development

Earlier versions of Dotfuscator supported Xamarin obfuscation to prevent reverse engineering – another recognized mobile app risk.

Over the past 12 months, Dotfuscator use on Xamarin projects has increased by over 1,000% and is currently being used to harden over 100 Xamarin apps per day.

With root detection and response available, we expect Dotfuscator adoption within the Xamarin community to continue accelerating at this exceptional pace.

Root detection and response are included with Dotfuscator at no additional cost. Dotfuscator Community Edition (CE) is free to qualified Visual Studio developers, and Dotfuscator Professional licenses start at $1,750 per developer.
